Making Farmers’ Markets More Accessible

With the warmer weather, people across New Jersey are enjoying the many farmers’ markets that offer fresh fruits and vegetables, often straight from the fields of the Garden State.  This year, there’s a growing effort to help make sure that people who get SNAP (food stamp)  benefits can enjoy the advantages of this nutritious and wholesome food.  More vendors at farmers’ markets in New Jersey and nationwide are now accepting SNAP benefits.  The United State Department of Agriculture has a list of those farmer’s markets taking SNAP.  And in an article entitled “A Trip to Bountiful,” New Jersey Monthly magazine recently published on article on farmers’ markets in the state, and how they benefit farmers, shoppers and communities.  Some of the top markets in the Northern, Central and Southern parts of New Jersey are profiled, and others are listed.  And there’s always great information at the State of New Jersey Department of Agriculture’s Jersey Fresh web page.
