Harvest Food Boxes Won’t Give SNAP Recipients What They Really Need

The White House’s proposed changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) chart a dangerous course for food insecure families around the country, cutting their access to the nutritious food that they need. The administration plans to replace a percentage of SNAP payment benefits in favor of “Harvest Food Boxes,”packages that contain fixed food selections, thus limiting recipients’ opportunity to shop for food based on nutritional considerations, dietary restrictions cultural needs, and religious preferences.
