Corporate Partner Spotlight: Prudential Financial

The core mission of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey is to eliminate hunger in our state, and addressing poverty is a key component to accomplish this. But, as we say all too often, we can’t do this alone. The FoodBank is fortunate to have great partners that support our efforts to end hunger.

Prudential is an exceptional FoodBank corporate partner that sets a high bar with a commitment to its community.

Prudential has partnered with the FoodBank for more than 17 years, with a focus on supporting job-training efforts. Our Food Service Training Academy (FSTA) is a program that we believe can address the root cause of hunger – poverty – by providing graduates with marketable skills that lead to a living wage.

The free, 15-week culinary program gives students a chance to start over; many of them have faced major challenges in their lives, including unemployment and incarceration.

Prudential is committed to supporting organizations and programs, like the FSTA, that enable all people to access opportunity to improve their financial well-being. As the longest-running supporter of the FSTA, Prudential says the program aligns with the company’s commitment to connect people with quality jobs. The FSTA has graduated more than 2,000 students since its inception in 2000 and has an average job-placement rate of 90 percent.

In addition, Prudential is one of the FoodBank’s largest corporate volunteer partners. In the last year, employee volunteers contributed more than 1,000 hours during which they sorted and assembled nearly 70,000 pounds of food for our neighbors in need. Prudential employees also provide technical expertise in the areas of human resources, quality assurance and information technology.

“Prudential employees are among the most enthusiastic of all of the volunteers that we are fortunate to host,” says Faye Kuhn, Director of Volunteer Services.  “They bring their spirit of community and competition with them, and take on each project with gusto! The result is always an amazing amount of work accomplished.”

The FoodBank was honored to recognize Prudential at our Real Estate Breakfast in June 2017!
