CFBNJ Mission Statement

We serve as a champion for addressing root causes of hunger, delivering neighbor-centered solutions and fostering collaborative partnerships across all sectors of society for New Jersey.

Working together with volunteers, donors and our many partners, we work to fill the emptiness caused by hunger with Food, Help and Hope.

What CFBNJ Does

For more than 45 years, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) has worked to provide food, help, and hope by distributing food and providing access to other critical resources. Right now, hunger in New Jersey affects more than 530,000 people in our service area, including over 130,000 children. As the state’s largest anti-hunger, anti-poverty organization, we combat food insecurity with a multifaceted approach:

Feeding the Line

We work to feed our neighbors in need on food pantry lines, distributing enough food for more than 90 million meals annually through more than 800 community partners (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, etc.). We prepare meals to serve at Kids Cafes and Summer Nutrition sites, provide supplemental weekend food through our Family Pack program, and rescue food from grocers that would otherwise go to waste.

Shortening the Line

CFBNJ also strives to shorten food pantry lines by giving our neighbors access to resources that can help them achieve greater independence. We aim to address the root cause of hunger – poverty – by providing job training, assistance with SNAP applications, and other financial resources, and hygiene products like diapers and period supplies.

Wellness Programs

Hunger is a health issue. While delivering food is central to our mission, so is inspiring healthy and positive lifestyles. We promote wellness for struggling individuals through programs that provide nutrition and physical activity education, medical screenings, and regular access to healthy food, like fresh fruits and vegetables.

Engaging the Public

We can’t do our important work alone. CFBNJ empowers all sectors of society in the fight against hunger by forging meaningful partnerships and through marketing, volunteerism, and advocacy efforts.

You can support CFBNJ’s mission, too! Here are some of our most needed food bank donations:

Food Bank Donations

  • Monetary gifts: When you donate funds to the FoodBank, every $1 provides three meals to hungry kids, seniors, and families. You can make a one-time gift, donate monthly, give in tribute, or make a long-term impact with a planned gift. No donation is too small to make a difference!
  • Food donations: Hosting a food drive is a powerful way to bring your community together to make a direct impact for neighbors in need. You can also purchase extra food at the grocery store to donate to CFBNJ. Our most-needed items include healthy staples like canned fruits, canned vegetables, peanut butter, shelf-stable milk, and canned proteins.
  • Volunteering at CFBNJ: Our volunteer program offers meaningful hands-on experiences for families, individuals, and groups of all types and sizes. You can give your time in our warehouse or at offsite events, building senior boxes, sorting food, scooping pasta, creating Family Packs, and more.

For our neighbors, CFBNJ works to fill the emptiness caused by hunger with food, help, and hope. Our mission is to assist those in need while seeking long-term solutions. You can make a difference by making monetary gifts, providing food donations, and volunteering.
